Summaary/ Objective

As a key proponent of operational excellence the Production Support Engineer evaluates production processes including equipment, people and production control and data systems to ensure on-time production, high quality output and efficient utilization of resources. This position will also lead trouble shooting and continuous improvement efforts for various production processes using standard CI tools, such as A3 reports, Ishikawa diagrams, process mapping, etc. This position will also develop and/or revise standard operating procedures and work instructions and provide training.  The role calls for a diverse knowledge of machinery and equipment, control methods, techniques and documentation and to collaborate with project engineering and project management on key initiatives.

Essential Functions / Four Most Important Tasks

  1. Organize and analyze process data to drive OEE and identify opportunities to gain greater operational efficiencies. Presents department specific OEE data and CI project status at management review meetings and runs departmental review meetings for assigned processes.  Instrumental in helping establish future projects and initiatives for assigned departmental processes.
  2. Supports the production management team by investigating and resolving quality notifications, process deviations, customer complaints, CAPAs, process improvements and help establish the department direction for future projects.
  3. Collaborates, revises and/or creates standard operating procedures and work instructions to address production processes, equipment, and required corrective actions.  Provides training to production staff as required.
  4. Works with project management, project engineering and validation engineering to create and assist with the execution of User Requirement Specifications, Functional Design Specifications, Quality Critical Design Specifications, Factory Acceptance Test, Site Acceptance Test, Performance Qualification and Process Validation documents and execute required protocols. Will also review and approve validation and verification documents and procedures related to such activities.

  • Works with maintenance management and maintenance technicians on mechanical downtime issues and problem solving ideas for equipment
  • Analyzes processes and proposes ideas for improvements that effect quality, safety, efficiency and performance
  • Supports other product support and project engineers and operations staff on machine design and equipment reliability improvements
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities and initiatives
  • Trains trainees as requested.

The Process Engineer position requires moving about as much as 60% of the workday in and throughout the plant; and the occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.  This position can require occasional squatting, stooping, bending or crouching.  Use of computer involves some repetitive motion.  Business needs require that the employee in this position work an established 40-hour workweek and on occasion work additional hours outside of the standard schedule. 
 

Required Education and Experience

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or other engineering related discipline
  2. Knowledgeable about manufacturing workflows and demonstrated engineering experience
  3. Experienced in operational excellence and continuous improvement methodologies
  4. Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  5. Effective communication skills both verbal and written
