Production Support Engineer for Steam Sterilization

The Production Support Engineer for Steam Sterilization will lead the steam sterilization process to ensure products meet regulatory requirements and on-time customer delivery. This position will be responsible for cycle development and applying a bracketing approach to minimize validation redundancies.  Create and apply a re-qualification program and validation master plan that meet regulatory requirements.  The ability to apply sterilization principles and concepts of steam sterilization.  A diverse knowledge of sterilization, equipment, control methods, techniques and documentation are key skills for this position.

Essential Functions / Most Important Tasks

  1. The process engineer will create and assist with the execution of User Requirement for the steam sterilization process.  This includes the creation and review of validation, verification documents and procedures related to the steam sterilization process.
  2. Manages the validation of new designs, re-qualification practices, bracketing approach to cycle development and process improvements. Will address cycle failures by developing short-term and long-term plans to prevent recurring issues. Reviews and recommends new or enhanced procedures and/or processes to maximize efficiency and to continuously improve the sterilization process and the quality of product produced
  3. Analyses of test data against established protocols and develops validation strategies to address anomalies or deviations.  The Process Engineer manages all aspects of the sterilization process which includes scheduling or performing preventative maintenance and calibration where required.
  4. Collaborates and trains on new procedures, and addresses concerns related to instructions.

  • Works with maintenance management and maintenance technicians on mechanical downtime issues and problem solving ideas for equipment
  • Analyses equipment and proposes ideas for improvements that effect quality, safety, efficiency and performance
  • Supports other process and project engineers and operations staff on machine design and equipment reliability improvements
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities and initiatives
  • Trains trainees as requested.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The Process Engineer position requires moving about as much as 60% of the workday in and throughout the plant; and the occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.  This position can require occasional squatting, stooping, bending or crouching.  Use of computer involves some repetitive motion.  Business needs require that the employee in this position work an established 40-hour workweek and on occasion work additional hours outside of the standard schedule. 

Your Profile

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and/or Biology or other engineering related discipline
  • Knowledgeable about sterilization processes and demonstrated experience
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
