Responsibilities:
- Planning and management of material development projects at a global level
- Support of Datwyler research and development activities worldwide
- Research and development of new and optimization of existing materials and surface treatments (incl. adhesives) for sealing applications, via the use of new materials, unconventional material combinations, innovative surface technologies, concepts, and ideas
- Keep close contact with material suppliers, and monitor the market for new materials
- Monitor chemical and other regulatory aspects and carry out the replacement of chemical substances in relevant fields (e.g., mobility, drinking water, food contact)
- Ensure material availability for strategic products through the development of raw material back-up solutions in collaboration with procurement and supply chain management
- Support product development in all its stages as a recognized material and surface technologies expert
- Provide consultations and technical support to external and internal customers to keep existing business and generate new
- Contribute to other teams in R&D, sales, engineering, and innovation in mutual development projects
- Support quality management in case of failure, the operations in implementing new technologies, and project transfer from development to serial production, and the sales, business development, and marketing team in generating new business opportunities
- In collaboration with T&I laboratories, carry out advanced component tests and material analyses to improve the final products
- Contribute to a culture of innovation by open discussion, generating novel concepts and enhancements for materials, by identifying relevant trends, and translating these into internal innovation projects
- Document your work in project reports, protect your inventions by patents, and publish your research results in specialist publications, or the form of presentations at conferences
Skills:
- A Master's degree in natural science or engineering in the fields of chemistry, materials science, polymers, or chemical engineering
- Specific knowledge in one or more of the following fields: elastomers, thermoplastics, nanomaterials, and surface chemistry
- 5+ years of experience in the rubber industry
- Willingness to travel
- Constructive, team-player, open-minded, innovative, problem-solver, committed, communicative, and well-structured, with the ability to work independently
