Essential Functions

Postition Summary: The Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting monthly closing, non-union payroll processing, caluclation of hourly overtime back pay, being  back-up (as neeed) in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll areas.  Assists in external/internal  audits.  Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

Position Status:  Reports to Finance Manager.  This position is considered to be Exempt.

Essential Functions:  

  • Prepares journal entries for monthly and year-end closings
  • Handles fixed assets
  • Participates in preparation of the financial statements
  • Calculates quarterly adjustments of hourly personnel overtime pay and controls advanced vacation payments for plant shutdown period, etc.
  • Processes payroll for non-union employees
  • Serves as a backup in A/R, A/P, and Payroll areas when needed
  • Interacts with counterparts at foreign affiliates
  • Learns responsibilities of Accounting Manager
  • Assists in various projects and assignments, as required
  • Ensures that incumbent complies with all safety rules and procedures, as well as good housekeeping within the plant, in accordance with SOPs, work instructions and GMPs

Skills and Education

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 1 -3 years' experience in Accounting
  • Familiar with Kronos timekeeping and payroll systems, ADP a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • GL experience preferred
  • Cost accounting experience preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Required aptitude to utilize specific equipment or to execute tasks in a particular manner to perform the essential functions of the job; will include use of technology and special equipment
  • Excellent math skills and attention to detail

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit at the desk in front of the computer for 8 hours or more a day.

Work Conditions:

Environment is considered an office setting.
