Senior Project Engineer

The Sr. Project Engineer manages special projects designed by the Corporate Office (global entity).  The Sr. Project Engineer designs machinery, equipment, and related processes used to produce primary and secondary packaging components for the parenteral pharmaceutical market.  He/She evaluates mechanical and electrical operations and ensures that they support on-time production, and that they optimize high quality output and resource utilization.  The Sr. Project engineer develops procedures for and trains on equipment and its use

Essential Functions
  1. Designs procedures for operating, controlling, testing, and inspecting machinery consistent with product specifications, standard instructions, quality/ISO certification requirements, Lean Manufacturing, and current Good Manufacturing principles and practices. 
  2. Makes or requests equipment adjustments and changes to operation instructions as needed.
  3. Monitors downtime and other statistics, confers with various departmental representatives on equipment utilization, and personally inspects machinery and outputs to identify deviations; recommends improvements including the best available technologies, engines, machines, and other tools to satisfy production needs and negotiates pricing. 
  4. Collaborates and trains on new procedures, and addresses concerns related to instructions.
  5. Justifies and designs complex engineering projects that maintain high quality mechanical processes; and serves as team leader or group member on Continuous Improvement projects with plant-wide implications.
  6. As leader, defines project, assembles team, schedules work, and evaluates outcomes and results. 
  7. Manipulates computer hardware and software to ensure accurate engineering documentation, instructions, and standard operating procedures; to record detailed process information; and to effectively complete purchase orders, contracts and change requests.

Demonstrated ability to apply the principles and concepts of mechanical engineering and its sub-disciplines in the design of effective mechanical operations
Working knowledge of manufacturing workflows, current Good Manufacturing Principles, tools, and practices, and ISO certification policies and directives 
Demonstrated ability to effectively apply Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and other Continuous Improvement tools 
Ability to manipulate computer software and hardware, e.g., an ERP system, intermediate MSWord, Excel, etc.
Knowledge of computer aided drafting (AutoCad) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) programming 
Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communications 
Ability to interpret graphs and charts, engineering diagrams, blueprints, shop orders, equipment guides, and other instructions to solve problems 
Knowledge of materials, machinery and tools to make products with fine quality requirements  
Demonstrated ability to manage successful projects that require a high level of emotional intelligence


The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically developed with at least five years of mechanical engineering experience and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree that included substantial mechanical engineering coursework.  Qualifying educational curricula must have an accreditation from ABET, Inc. (i.e., the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).  An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable
