Manager Material Development

Your responsibilities

  • Development of new materials and optimization of existing materials
  • Ability to learn new areas of materials science and bring newly acquired skills in practise
  • Customer-related project work with tight schedules
  • Customer communication and ability to present complex topics to generic audience
  • Cultivating the internal chemical compliance system for monitoring and replacing of chemical substances (e.g. according to REACH)
  • Keeping close contact to material suppliers, and monitoring the market for new materials
  • Design of test methods and testing of materials in accordance with the chemical compliance, and customer requirements, creating a pipeline of back-up material solutions
  • Lead independently complex material and surface treatment development projects
  • Using broad technical know-how and materials expertise contribute other teams in R&D, engineering and advanced technologies in mutual development projects
  • Contributing to a culture of innovation by actively generating novel concepts and enhancements for materials and surface treatment, by identifying relevant trends, technical developments and translating these into internal innovation projects
  • Cross-functional collaboration at site level and alignment with global teams
  • Document work in detailed project reports and pursue lessons learnt from topics alike
  • Strive for excellence

Our requirements

  • A university degree in natural science or engineering in the fields of chemistry, materials science, polymers or chemical engineering
  • Strong background in one or more of following fields: elastomers, nanomaterials, thermoplastics, surface chemistry, or analytical chemistry
  • 10+ years of experience in similar industries
  • Proficiency in writing detailed technical reports
  • Willingness to travel globally to support customers and other teams
  • Adaptability, constructive, team-player, open-minded, innovative, committed, communicative and well structured, with the ability to work independently
  • Fluent in English (with strong verbal and written communication skills), German is an advantage
